If you have never had Frito Pie before, first of all, I want to say I’m sorry for your loss. Seriously, if you haven’t had this before, you practically haven’t lived.
Second of all, don’t let the name scare you. I promise it’s not an actual pie made out of Fritos, because that would be disgusting. Instead, it’s a mixture of a ton of deliciously savory ingredients that you’ll love.
So now you’re probably wondering how to make it, aren’t you? Here’s how.
What you’ll need is:
- Fritos of your choice (or any corn chip you’d like)
- Chili of your choice (here’s a great recipe by Johnny Cash! This one is great on Frito Pie.)
- Cheese of your choice (I like melted cheddar and monterey jack, but anything from pepper jack to nacho cheese sauce to cheese whiz and more works on this)
- Toppings of your choice (white or green onion, tomatoes, sour cream, jalapeño, etc.)
Now, assembling this bad boy is going to be one of the easiest things you’ll ever do. Get out a bowl, casserole dish, or whatever else you want to put it in. Then, put down a nice layer of Fritos.
Spoon on your chili, as much or as little as you want. I kinda like mine somewhere in between: smothered, but not drowning. Then you’ll add a ton of cheese (or just a little, if that’s your thing).
Finally, top it off with your toppings. I like green onions, some sour cream, tomatoes, and jalapeño. Almost any savory thing works on this though, so go crazy.
