Anything that is in a mason jar seems to be more perfect. At least for me, there’s something that I adore about mason jars. HomeGrounds on YouTube shows one of the easiest methods for brewing coffee and how to make cold brew in a mason jar. I love cold brew and I have my own method that I use, however, I wanted to watch a video and see if there are other ways that might be different from mine. Cold-brew coffee can be expensive over time if you’re buying a cup every day versus making it yourself and storing it in the fridge for a couple of days or a week. This is great if you’re short on time and want to grab and go from your own refrigerator. At the end of time, this cold brew recipe gives you a smooth coffee concentrate that is naturally low in acid and bitterness.
- coffee beans
- food scale
- coffee grinder
- mason jar or any container
- measuring cup
First, weigh your coffee beans at 57 grams on the food scale. Let the coffee beans ground at the most coarse setting. Then, add the ground coffee to the mason jar and add 16 ounces of room temperature water. Stir, close, and keep it in a cool spot for 12-24 hours.
Then, pour and dump everything from the mason jar including the grinds into the strainer. Once that is finished, you have a coffee concentrate that is ready to prepare and mix for your cold brew.
Note: if you want to make a large batch of cold brew, just put more coffee beans into your mason jar. This cold brew recipe is made to be a 2 water to coffee ratio. In the tutorial, he shows how to mix everything in the end.
Overall, there are many people out there who think cold brew is hard to make, but it’s so simple. You’ll save a lot by buying your own coffee beans that can last a month of the price of one cup.
