The Orange Peel Quilt

The orange peel quilt is something I recently discovered that I wish I had known about earlier. It’s so easy to do, such a unique, pretty design, and a great way to work with patterned fabric and make it pop.

What’s so great about this quilt is its versatility. You can adjust your color scheme to include more fabrics, and it becomes a whole new design entirely. I themed mine for the holidays!

Jenny from Missouri Star Quilt Company makes this adorable quilt in one of her YouTube tutorials, and it’s even easier than I had imagined. I had mine done in just a couple of days!

Here’s what you’re gonna need to stitch this up:

How to Do It

From afar, it looks like stitching together this orange peel quilt could be really difficult. Don’t let its looks deceive you. This block is actually super simple to make!

What makes it so easy is the fusible fabric sewed on to the “peel” of the block— the eye shaped portion in the middle of each square.

So all you need to do is cut a 5″ square into an eye shape, sew on some fusible, and iron it on to your background square. Sew those into 4-patches, and that’s your block.

Yes, I’m serious. That’s really it. It’s that easy!

Check out Jenny go into detail in her video below. You’ll be sewing up this block all the time once you see how easy it is!
