Southern Best
Fried pickles: a Southern delicacy few have been lucky enough to truly enjoy the way they’re supposed to be enjoyed. Lucky for you, we’ve got the recipe!
First, you’ll want to start off with 32 oz. of dill pickle slices. Then, you’ll make a batter and a breading for the pickles that will allow them to become super crispy and truly Southern-fried.
What you’ll need for the batter is:
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 cup flour
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 tsp. hot sauce
- 1 tsp. cayenne pepper
- 1/4 tsp. salt
What you’ll need for the breading:
- 2 cups flour
- 1 cup cornmeal
- 1/2 tsp. black pepper
- 1 tsp. salt
You’ll also need some vegetable oil for frying, some dressing for dipping, and some additional salt if you’d like to season the pickles when they come out of the oil.
Let’s Get Started
To prepare these pickles, it’s incredibly simple. First, mix your batter together: eggs, flour, buttermilk, hot sauce, cayenne pepper, and salt.
In another bowl, make your breading by combining the flour, cornmeal, black pepper and salt. Now it’s time to prep your pickles.
Take each slice and dry them off with a paper towel before dipping them in the batter followed by the breading, making sure they are fully coated.
Fry them in vegetable oil until golden brown. You’ll be able to tell the oil is hot enough by testing a little bit of the breading. If it bubbles and sizzles, it’s hot enough.
Serve ‘Em Up
I love mine with a little bit of ranch and drizzled with a little extra salt. No matter what you serve them up with, I promise they’re delicious.
