Mother’s day is coming up, and I don’t know about you, but I’m stressed. Finding the right gift for the woman who gave birth to you is  some serious work. It has to be perfect, and it has to look like you put a lot of effort into it.

I already got my mom her main gift, but I always like to make something too. It doesn’t matter how old you are, moms love homemade things. My mom loves tea and she loves candles, so I decided why not combine the two?

Others seem to have shared my idea, because when I looked up “teacup candle” I found a tutorial! This one is by YouTube channel BudgetSavvyDiva, and I love how it turned out. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Teacup & saucer
  • Candle wax
  • Wick
  • Essential oils or fragrance (if your wax isn’t already scented)
  • Optional color for the wax

Making the candle is super simple. Just melt down the wax and add coloring and scent if necessary. Then, either glue down your wick to your teacup, or dip the metal base of your candle wick in the wax and stick the wick down in the center of the teacup.

Wait for the wax or glue to dry while holding the wick in place, then pour the rest of your wax into the cup. You can wrap the top of your wick around a pencil or something similar and set it on the teacup to keep it in place while it dries.

After that, you can glue your teacup to your saucer if you’d like, or add a little tag to it like she did in the tutorial. Other than customizing it, you’re done!

I can’t wait until my mom opens hers up. I made it smell like vanilla and jasmine, her two favorite scents. She’s gonna love it! What are you going to make yours look and smell like? Let me know in the comments and share this with your friends so they know what to make their moms too!
