During the summer, air conditioning is a Godsend. Walking inside of an air conditioned room after a walk outside in hot, humid weather is one of the most refreshing feelings there is.

I don’t even want to think of the awful experience that is living a hot summer day without the possibility of air conditioning. It just sounds awful, torturous even.

Imagine this: you walk inside after a long, hot day, and realize your home is just as hot as it is outside. Your air conditioning broke.

Don’t panic. Believe it or not, you don’t always need to call a repairman. Instead, AC units can often be fixed with a few DIY solutions!

Try these simple tricks before you call the professionals. You can thank me later.

Clean The Unit

First thing’s first– make sure your AC unit is clean. When it’s dirty, you aren’t getting the best cooling efficiency, but you are being hit with a hefty electric bill.

Turn off the AC unit and spray with a garden hose to get rid of any excess gunk.

Change The Filter

The majority of professional phone calls end up simply being a filter replacement. Turn your system off and swap in a new one.

Change The Battery

If your thermostat is blank, it’s probably time for a new battery. Once that’s done, switch your system to cold.

If it’s humid out, turn the fresh air system off and on to the summer setting.

Reset Tripped Circuit

A tripped circuit breaker can also cause AC issues. Try the reset hack in the video below and see if that works for you.

If all else fails, call the professionals, but I guarantee your problem can probably be solved with a little DIY magic.

Happy summer, and don’t fret: that AC will be working again in no time!
