A variation of the t-shirt dress is perfect for every season. By itself, it’s great for summer. With a jacket, it’s great for spring. Add some leggings, and it’s a fall outfit. Sew on some sleeves for winter.

Seriously, this thing is beyond versatile. I’m surprised my closet isn’t all t-shirt dresses. You know, with this tutorial, maybe it can be.

YouTuber MeeraMeera teaches you how to sew this adorable dress up from scratch, so you can make as many of them as you’d like. All you need to do is grab some fabric and get started!

The first thing you’ll need to do to create this dress is make sure you know your measurements (or whoever’s measurements the dress is for,) and then you can get started cutting your fabric.

There are a few ways you can do this.

To make measuring easier, use your favorite t-shirt or knit dress as a guideline for how you want this to sit. Place it on pattern paper or wrapping paper, and trace to create a pattern.

Be sure to trace the shoulder and bodice separately. Measure from your shoulder to where you want the dress to end for the length.

You can add sleeves or lengthen/shorten the dress as you’d please, but this is the basic outline of how to do this– start with about a yard and a half of stretchy knit fabric, and add as necessary.

Use the pattern to cut a couple pieces of fabric for your dress and shoulder pieces, making sure to add a little bit more fabric for a seam allowance.

Stitch it together as she shows in the tutorial below, and you’re done!

I can’t wait to create a ton of colors. What colors are you gonna start with?
