Boiled Peanuts
Boiled peanuts are a southern staple. Whether you make them spicy, zesty, or plain ol’ salty, they’re incredibly delicious. Unfortunately, they usually take 2 and a half to 3 hour to boil.
I don’t know about you, but I don’t always have that kind of time. I want my peanuts sooner than that. Luckily, there’s a solution: cook them in an instant pot!
That’s right, with 45-60 minutes of time, an instant pot makes your beloved boiled peanuts! Let’s grab your peanuts and get started!
You will need the following ingredients:
- green peanuts (not actually green, but right out of the ground fresh and slightly dampened.)
- salt
- liquid crab boil (if you want that zestiness)
- crushed red pepper flakes (if you like spice)
- cajun seasoning (also if you like spice)
Pluck off any peanut stems, then rinse them thoroughly. Add your peanuts to the Instant Pot, and cover with the rest of the ingredients plus enough water to cover the peanuts.
Gently press your peanuts down with a steamer to keep them down since they’ll want to float. Hit “Manual” or “Pressure Cook” High Pressure.
Use a natural release for 45 minutes, or do a quick release for 60 minutes. Either method is fine.
If you use raw peanuts instead of green peanuts, soak them overnight and then cook for 80 minutes and allow a natural release.
People debate on whether these are better hot or cold. Pressure Luck Cooking loves them cold, but try them both ways and see which way you prefer!
