Halloween is on its way very soon, and that means it’s time to think about costumes. Homemade costumes are always the best, especially for the little ones in your life.

If you know a little kid that you want to make a costume for, give this pumpkin a shot! The best part? It’s made out of pillowcases!

Want to make this? Here’s how.

What you’ll need is:

  • 2 pillowcases, one in orange, and one in a more muted color
  • Black stick-on fabric for the face
  • 1 template of a jack-o-lantern, like this one

    Amedi / TemplatedB.Me
  • 1/2 inch elastic
  • Ribbon (preferably green)
  • Stuffing
  • Fabric Pen
  • Measuring Gauge
  • Scissors
  • Black & Orange thread

Stack the orange pillow case on top of the other one. Cut the tops off, cutting down shorter if the child you’re sewing for is shorter. Cut out arm holes using the fabric pen and scissors.

Use the template to cut out the face on the black stick-on fabric. Stick it on the orange pillow case, making sure the arm holes are facing the top. Use black thread to sew it in place.

Turn it inside out, then stick the muted colored case inside. Pin in place, then sew with a 1/2″ seam allowance on the top. Clip your curves, then press.

Stitch 2 rows on the lower edge with a 1/2″ seam allowance. Leave a 2″ opening. Insert the elastic into this opening. Stitch the elastic’s ends together, then stitch the opening shut with the elastic inside.

Prep the upper casing by folding and pressing it with an opening much like the one for the elastic, then stuff the pumpkin. Stitch the upper casings. Add the ribbon to the upper casing opening.

Tie a bow on one shoulder, then it’s ready to wear!
