Fruit is such a summery thing. It’s bright and colorful, sweet and delicious, and seems to be popping up as decorations for everything.

Lately I’ve seen a lot of clothes inspired by fruits. One of my favorites is the watermelon, so I went on a hunt for some watermelon-themed clothing.

I didn’t think I’d find anything this amazing, but I hit the jackpot. These watermelon shorts are adorable AND an easy DIY!

Here’s how you can make your own pair.

What You’ll Need:

  • White Shorts
  • Painter’s tape
  • Pink fabric dye
  • Green fabric dye
  • Sponge
  • Gloves
  • Black fabric marker or black rhinestones

Start by putting painter’s tape across the front and back of the shorts so it’s divided into two areas: the pockets/buttons, and the legs/crotch.

Put on your gloves and prepare your fabric dyes. On the top where the pockets and buttons are, start dabbing the green on the front and the back. Do the same to the bottom with the pink.

Allow it to dry then take off the tape. If you want to make it look a little uneven like a real rind, you can dab a bit more pink dye along the white. Just be careful doing this.

Throw it in the washing machine and put it on cold and gentle. Dry it on your normal dryer setting.

Once everything is dry, it’s time to add your seeds. You can either draw them with a black fabric marker or use some fabric glue to glue on some black rhinestones.

Let this dry, and you have your watermelon shorts. How cute are these?

Are you gonna be wearing these all summer like I am?
