Chicken fried steak: the ultimate southern indulgence. If done right, it’s one of the most mouthwatering meals you’ll ever have.

A tender, thin steak, breaded with a crispy crunchy coating, topped with a rich and decadent gravy. Yeah, I don’t think it gets much better than that.

Food Network chef Alton Brown has come up with one of the best recipes for chicken fried steak I’ve ever seen. Chicken fried steak is great no matter how you make it, but seriously, try this one.

Here’s what you’re gonna need:

  • 2 lbs. beef bottom round, excess fat trimmed
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup milk (whole, preferably)
  • 1/2 tsp fresh thyme
  • For the rest of the ingredients, click here!

To make the steak, first tenderize and thin it out as much as you’d like it to be. Then comes the dredging. You’ll want some seasoned flour and some eggs for this.

Dredge the steak in the flour, then the egg, then the flour again. This will create a thick crust that will crisp up the outside of the steak!

From here, you’ll want to fry up your steak. To learn how to do that, click here!
