When it comes to knitting or crocheting, the magic knot is a life saver. It allows you to switch colors, or even continue with another ball of yarn after you run out of a first one.

It’s a pretty simple technique, but if you do it wrong, it could end up making your project look a little messy. That’s why learning it is essential if crocheting or knitting is your thing.

So without further adieu, let’s learn that magic knot.

First, you’ll need two pieces of yarn. This technique is perfect for switching colors if you’re making a project with multiple colors, but they can be the same color too. Just grab two pieces.

Lay the pieces of yarn on top of each other so each end is toward the body of the other piece of yarn. Then, tie a knot on each side like she shows below.

You’re not done yet. Now it’s time to meld them together into one.

Watching the magic knot be tied together is mesmerizing. Pull the ends of each knot and they’ll meet in the middle, creating a knot with each piece of yarn creating one continuous piece.

Gorgeous, right? From there, you can knit whatever you’d like!
