Here Comes The Sun

It’s cold outside. Unfortunately, none of us can deny that. We can, however, come up with a way to bring the sunlight back in our homes… besides turning on the heater, that is.

Make this quilt! It’s covered in adorable little suns, and it’s beyond easy to make! Jenny Doan from Missouri Star Quilt Company sews this up in her video tutorial.

Fabric Prep

Believe it or not, constructing this block is as simple as creating a Dresden. One Dresden circle equals two blocks worth of sun designs!

To really stick to the sun design, the Dresden should be made with primarily oranges, reds, and yellows. If you want it to seem more like a sunset, you can add pinks and lavenders as well.

As for your background fabric, you can go whatever direction you’d like. Jenny uses a black to really allow the sun to pop, but an ombre fabric that matches the sun’s colors will make it looks like a sunset.

Stitch It Up

It really is as easy as it seems. Create a half Dresden out of your fabrics of choice, and cut up your background squares to the size you’d like. Add your Dresden to the bottom of the block, and pin.

From here, you’ll use a little interfacing in the inner circle to keep it in place. You’ll also want to do a little hand sewing around the Dresden, to secure it, and the block is done!

Yup, that’s seriously it.

Watch Jenny stitch this up in the video below, then you can bring some sunlight into your life!
