Spring Dresdens

Spring is almost here. For me, that means it’s time to break out the pastel fabrics and celebrate all of those beautiful flowers blooming.

Another way to celebrate the spring is to make a quilt that emulates the season, like this adorable take on dresdens by Jenny Doan at Missouri Star Quilt Company.

Making this quilt is super simple. If you know how to make a simple dresden already, then this is going to be a complete breeze to make. To get started, you’ll need to gather a few things first.

Here’s what you’ll need.

Stitching It Up

Start by making a classic dresden. You can use whatever fabrics you want for this, but the end result kind of resembles a plant sprouting, so natural or springy colors. Florals also work really well!

Make the “flower pot” out of a solid piece of fabric. This is what the dresden will come out of. Add some HeatnBond to that piece and the dresden to adhere it to your base square.

Once that’s finished, add a top stitch all the way around the design to secure it in place. Then that’s it, your block is done!

Add some batting, a backing fabric, and any borders you’d like, and you’ve got a gorgeous spring time quilt.

Happy Quilting!
