Sugar Wax 101
During the summer, almost everyone I know is walking around in a skirt or some shorts. Because of this, some people prefer their legs are hair-free.
Shaving can cause cuts, chemical depilatories smell awful, and going to the salon can cost hundreds of dollars. So what can you do?
You can make sugar wax and wax your own legs! It’s surprisingly easy to make, you can store it for whenever, and you’ll end up saving a ton of money in the long run.
Want to learn how to make it and use it? Here’s what you’ll need.
- 1 cup white. brown, powdered, or turbinado/demerara sugar
- 1/4 cup lemon juice, lime juice, calamansi juice, or any kind of vinegar
- 1/4 cup water
In addition to these ingredients, you’ll need a candy thermometer and a storage container.
The most important thing you need to remember here is that you are dealing with hot sugar. You MUST wait for this stuff to cool before you use it. Otherwise, handling it is EXTREMELY dangerous.
If you don’t have a candy thermometer handy, you can still do this DIY. Just use what abetweene calls the “cold water test!”
The idea behind the cold water test is simple. Simply drop a spoonful of your hot sugar syrup into some ice cold water.
You will notice that the syrup hardens right away. After a few seconds, text to see if the mixture is malleable like clay.
If it is, then you can take your syrup off the burner and let it cool. Place it in a storage container, and you can use it whenever you want!
