Dogs are called man’s best friend and for good reason. They’re super friendly, have adorable personalities, and bring joy everywhere they go.

We want to feed them everything, constantly pet them, tell them how amazing they are, and take them anywhere we’re allowed to. That’s why it’s essential to have a good leash.

Sure, you could go to your local pet store and buy your dog a leash, or you can make your own. It doesn’t cost very much, but it does reflect yours and your furry friend’s personality! I used a tutorial by YouTube channelĀ Living to DIY with Rachel Metz.

All you’ll need to make an awesome leash is some rope (a thicker one and a thin one preferred), industrial strength glue, a leash hook, and dip dye. You can also add charms or other decorations depending on what you want the finished product to look like.

Making the leash is super simple. Grab your larger rope. Use the industrial glue to glue a small loop for the hook and a larger loop for the handle. Then, dip dye your leash however you’d like. Rachel makes hers an ombre effect, but anything works. Just be sure to leave it in a bath of salt, vinegar, and water to remove excess dye. You don’t want it all over your hands!

Then use your smaller rope to secure the handle and leash loop. You can re-dye these loops if you want the thinner rope to match the body of your leash. Once you secure those in place, you’re ready for your first walk!

My dog Ninja loves walks, and this leash makes our exercise time even more special. I’d love to see what leashes you guys come up with, so leave a photo for me in the comments, and be sure to share this with your friends. Everyone with fur babies needs one of these!
