Knowing how to make a heart quilt is a quilter’s necessity. They’re perfect for showing your appreciation, your love, or even your condolences during hard times.
Jenny from Missouri Star Quilt Company does it once again by teaching her method for this quilting essential. Piecing together these blocks is simple, and the result is absolutely adorable.
Here’s what you’ll need to make it.
You’ll start with 4 strips sewn together. Jenny has the strips in a light-dark-light-dark pattern for contrast. Then, you’ll cut these strips sets into 5 inch pieces.
For your background fabric, you’ll need two 5″ squares for every block, and 2.5″ squares of that same fabric, 4 for every block.
Then what you need to do from there is take the four 2.5″ squares and sew them on like this, pressing open the squares after trimming excess corners.
Then for the bottom of the heart, you’ll use your 5″ squares on each strip. Make sure the squares seam line faces opposite directions, like a triangle, then sew like you did with the 2.5″ squares.
Then, you’ll trim, press open those seams, and sew the two pieces together to create an adorable little heart!
From here, you can add your sashing, borders, batting, and backing, and once you stitch all of your blocks together, you’re all done!
