I just recently bought a set of cast-iron cookware and I love it so much. The only thing I did not love was the fact the handles of my skillets can get very hot and I really don’t like having to grab a dish towel or oven mitt every time I want to move my skillets around the stove. Then I found this excellent Youtube tutorial showing how to make simple insulated handles from scrap fabric, answer to my dilemma solved. I had everything I needed to make this little project and it didn’t take much time at all. I first laid out my materials, scrap fabric for the outer handle and a contrasting fabric for the lining, and some small pieces of self-sticking insulating batting. I began the DIY Skillet Handle by drawing an easy pattern using my cast-iron skillet as a guide.
Then I cut out my pattern and laid it on all my fabric pieces and cut them accordingly, there will be six layers in all.
Then I put the outer fabric right sides together and pinned the insulating batting pieces to each of the outside facings, sewed together and turned it right side out. Then I sewed my lining together and slipped it over the outer part and made a tube, the I sewed all the pieces together.
Then I just turned the entire project right side out again and I had the most beautiful DIY Skillet handles I could ever imagine. This tutorial was so simple and easy, I made several more as gifts.
