The Easiest Spiral

There are few things that get me more excited about finishing a quilt than getting to do the free motion stitching. No matter what design you end up doing, it’s a ton of fun.

And if you decide to do the square spiral, for example, it’s not only fun, but it’s incredibly easy. So easy, in fact, that I feel like a toddler could do it.

Now, I’m not saying to put your 3-year-old in front of the sewing machine and tell then to have at it, but I am saying you could do this easily. Just grab your quilt and let’s get going!

Need Help? Use A Ruler!

Stitching straight lines and getting them perfect is easy, especially if you have a ruler. Use it to figure out the exact size of the squares.

Keep going, around and around, until you’ve filled up the space you’d like. It takes a bit of patience, but it’s truly done in no time once you get the hang of it. That, and it looks stunning on a simple block!

Watch Leah Day go through this easy technique in her video tutorial below. Try it once and you’ll be doing it all the time!

Good Luck!
