A Classic Appetizer
Pigs in a blanket: a classic everyone loves. But what if we make it even easier to serve? Those little piggies can get messy if they roll off the plate!
This pull-apart version does just that. Not only is it easier to serve, but the mustard cheese sauce used for dipping is incredible. You’ll be eating a ton of these little dudes once you taste them.
Wanna make them yourself? Here’s how:
The ingredients you’ll need are:
- 2 lbs. pizza dough
- 65-75 smokies sausages
- 2 tbsp. butter + 2 tbsp. butter, separated
- 3 tbsp. flour
- 2 cups milk
- 1 1/2 tbsp. whole grain mustard
- 8 oz. white cheddar cheese
- salt & pepper to taste
- extra flour for rolling the dough
How It’s Made
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F.
Sprinkle some flour on your work surface, then roll out your pizza dough into a rectangle. Cut them into little strips and roll those strips around the smokies.
Use 2 tbsp. of butter to grease a round baking pan, then fill it with the smokies standing upright. Once it’s full, bake for 30 minutes.
In the meantime, you can make your sauce. Melt 2 tbsp. of butter in a saucepan, then add your flour. Mix it together and cook until it smells like pie crust, then add your milk.
Whisk the milk until it forms a thick-ish sauce, and then add your mustard. Whisk that in, and once well-incorporated, add your cheese, salt, and pepper.
Take your pigs in a blanket out of the oven, and once they’ve cooled a bit, you’re ready to tear off one of those little piggies and dip it in your cheese sauce!
Enjoy!
