My dog is my best friend. I would do anything for him, and we can’t even technically speak to one another. We’re just that close by being around one another.
The relationship someone has with their pet is personal and incredible. They’re like family. However, companies often capitalize on this.
Pet accessories can often be extremely expensive. For example, pet beds often cost upwards of $100. I love my dog, but no thanks, I’ll make my own.
Making a pet bed is super easy, and way cheaper than buying one in store. Wanna make one? Let’s get started.
What You Need:
- 2 pieces of cozy fabric (80cm long x 68cm wide)
- Cotton stuffing
- Sewing needle
- Sewing machine
Fold up 2 times into quarters, like a blanket.
Using scissors, cut and round the open corners.
Place both fabrics with the fluffy side out on top of each other and secure with pins.
Get the cotton stuffing and have it marked by your pet (i.e. cats can knead on them so they can leave their scent). This step is optional.
Cut open the middle part to insert the cotton stuffing. Sew around it to close completely.
Now we’re ready to fill the sides with cotton stuffing. From the edge of the cotton stuffing in the center, sew a pattern traversing the side to leave enough room for the cotton stuffing.
Fill the chamber with cotton and after each filling, close the opening with a quilt seam. Do the quilt seam 10 times to give your pet bed extra durability.
You can add ribbons and other accessories to customize the design, but other than that, your fluffy pet bed for your cat or dog is done!
I like this pet bed more than anything in store. It’s cheaper, fun to make, and is made with a lot of love. My dog loves his, and giving your pet their own will give them a comfy place to sleep.
