Lousiana Beignets
Beignets may be simplistic, but they pack quite the punch. These golden fried pastries are soft and pillowy, dusted with powdered sugar, and beyond delicious.
They’re also not very difficult to make. Southern Living shows how easy it truly is in their video tutorial, but before you get to watching that, let’s gather your ingredients.
You will need the following items to get started:
- warm water
- active dry yeast
- granulated sugar
- evaporated milk
- eggs, beaten
- salt
- shortening
- bread flour
- vegetable oil for frying
- powdered sugar
How To Make Them
Preheat your vegetable oil to 360 degrees F, then you can get started in making your beignet batter. Mix together the warm water, yeast, and a bit of sugar, followed by the evaporated milk, eggs, and salt.
Melt together shortening and warm water. That mixture and the bread flour will be added to the original mixture. Chill the mixture in the fridge for a while, then roll it out and cut it into squares.
Fry the dough for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown. Dust thoroughly with powdered sugar, then you’re ready to serve them!
Watch Southern Living’s video below and you can get to making your own. Whether it’s Mardi Gras or just a regular day, you will absolutely love them.
