These days, people are coming up with unique donut flavors. I found one that’s definitely worth trying, and it’s really easy to make: Mountain Dew!

Wanna try making them yourself? Here’s what you’ll need to get started.

For the donut batter:

  • 1 bag cake mix (white or yellow)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup oil
  • 1 cup Mountain Dew

For the glaze:

  • 2 tbsp. melted butter
  • 1/3 cup Mountain Dew
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar (or more/less, depending on how thick you like the icing)
  • green food coloring (optional)

Making The Donut

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.

To make the donuts, you’ll start with boxed cake mix, but you won’t follow the directions on the box. Instead, you’ll use less eggs and less oil, and Mountain Dew instead of water.

You’ll mix together the egg, the oil, the cake mix, and the Mountain Dew until it forms a batter. Put the batter in a piping bag and get out a donut baking tray.

Spray the tray with nonstick spray and pipe the mixture into the donut tray. Fill them about halfway, tap the tray to remove any air bubbles, then bake for 12-14 minutes.

While that bakes, make your glaze. Start by pouring the melted butter and Mountain Dew in a bowl. Then, add a bit of powdered sugar at a time until you form a thick glaze.

Add some green food coloring to the glaze if you’d like, and then it’s ready to pour on the donuts (once they’re cooled, of course.)
