Mountain Dew Popcorn
Popcorn: the salty snack that everybody loves. There are so many flavors– classic buttered, kettle corn, white cheddar, and so much more. I could eat popcorn every day!
Candy-coated popcorn is super popular right now, and for good reason. You get the salty sweetness and the crunch of kettle corn, but there’s a flavored twist. Your candy coating can taste like whatever you’d like!
We’ve done a lot of Mountain Dew recipes here at DIY Ways, but this one has to be my favorite. The flavor of Mountain Dew is perfect with popcorn, and you’ve just GOT to try it!
To make this Mountain Dew popcorn, you’ll need the following ingredients:
- 4 cups granulated sugar, divided in half
- 1 cup light corn syrup, divided in half
- 1 cup + 1/2 cup Mountain Dew soda, divided
- 4 cups popped popcorn (unflavored, unbuttered is best)
- 2 tbsp. butter
- green food coloring, optional
How To Make The Popcorn
Start by making a Mountain Dew syrup. Combine half of your sugar, half of your corn syrup, and 1 cup of Mountain Dew. Boil until the sugar dissolves and it reaches a 230 degree F temperature.
Let the syrup cool completely while you pop your popcorn. Keep the popcorn warm in a 200 degree oven while you create your candy coating.
Over medium heat, combine the other half of your sugar, the other half of your corn syrup, 1/2 cup of Mountain Dew, and your butter. Boil that for about 3-5 minutes.
Add 1/4 cup of your Mountain Dew syrup to the mixture, then add your food coloring if you’d like.
Lay your popcorn in a bowl, 1/2 at a time, and coat it with your syrup mixture. Once that’s done, lay out the popcorn in an even layer, and pop it in the oven for about 8 minutes.
After the popcorn cools off, either serve it in the little clusters that formed, or break it up into individual pieces before serving. Regardless of how you serve it, you’re gonna love it!
