The Hunter’s Block is such a quilting classic. Every quilter had done at least one of these, if not more. It makes sense as to why: it’s adorable, and it’s easy.

Now, you can make it modern, too! Fat Quarter Shop on YouTube has come up with a great tutorial on how to modernize this classic block. Here’s how to do it.

This all starts with some strips and some squares. Those squares will be turned into half square triangles and the strips will form a border around the center half square triangles.

First, you’ll want to cut a square into two equal triangles, and do this with another square as well. Switch two of the triangles around and you’ll make two half square triangles.

Then, you’ll take strips, and make a border around those triangles. Finally, you’ll want some larger half square triangles for the outer corners.

My favorite thing about this Hunter’s Block is the adorable patterned fabric she uses in the tutorial. Not only does this modernize the block a ton, but it adds a cheery pop of color I love!

Once you’ve done all your cutting and stitching, and you press the block open, you’ll be all finished and ready to assemble.
