Chokers seem to be all over the place right now. I see them on everyone, no matter what style they tend to gravitate toward. Super girly girls wear them just as much as edgy girls do!
One style of choker I see super often is ones with gemstones. I love them and always want to buy them, but unfortunately they tend to err on the expensive side.
It’s no secret that gemstones are expensive. They’re adorable, but they make the prices of anything you buy a lot more expensive than they should be.
Instead of buying gemstone chokers, I decided to make my own. Instead of buying chokers, gems, and things to attach them together, I took some advice from JENerationDIY on YouTube.
Jen makes her own chokers from scratch, including the gem detail that I absolutely adore. You’ll never guess what she made it out of either. Here’s your hint: as a crafter, you’ll definitely have this already.
She makes these choker gemstones using none other than… hot glue.
I know it sounds crazy, but hot glue is all you need to make that stylish choker you’re seeing everywhere! With a little bit of jewelry wire and the choker base of your choice, you’ll be wearing it in no time.
Now for making the gems, maybe the easiest part. Carefully, heat up your glue gun and on a flat surface that can handle the heat, and apply the clue in the shape you’d like.
If you want a chunkier “gem,” add more layers of glue along with any colorant you’d like (she uses nail polish). Layer until you get the gem you’d like, then wait for it to dry completely.
Once it dries, take some crafting wire and wrap it like Jen does, or however else you’d like to do it. Attach it to your choker, and you’re done!
