Do any of you remember Kenny Rogers’ Roasters? It was such a good barbecue place, but unfortunately, there’s no locations left in the U.S. The only ones are in Asia.

Luckily, I found Kenny’s recipe for barbecue sauce! Baste this on some chicken or ribs, and you’ve got all the flavor of Kenny Roger’s Roasters right at home!

This recipe is super simple to make and ultra delicious. Seriously, this stuff makes my mouth water.

Here’s how you can make this awesome barbecue sauce at home.

What You’ll Need:

  • 1 cup applesauce
  • 1/2 cup heinz ketchup
  • 1 1/4 cups light brown sugar, packed
  • 6 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Salt & pepper to taste

In a heavy sauce pan, mix the ingredients together, and bring it to a boil. Stir constantly for about 4-5 minutes.

Turn the heat down to low and continue to stir for about 3-5 minutes more. Make sure the brown sugar is completely dissolved.

Allow it to cook uncovered without stirring for 15 more minutes on the lowest possible heat.

Transfer the mixture to the top of a double boiler over simmering water if you are using it for basting of ribs or chicken during baking, or cool the sauce, cover it, and refrigerate.

This sauce is good for 30 days in the fridge, or 8-12 months in the freezer.

I can’t wait to cook up more of this sauce. It’s so delicious that I don’t use any other sauce now! While you’re cooking, check out Kenny’s restaurant commercial below. Talk about a throwback!
