Mac & cheese is the perfect comfort food. It’s so rich and delicious, tastes good as a side dish or as a meal, and satisfies any cheesy craving.
One of my favorite recipes comes from none other than Joanna Gaines, star of HGTV’s Fixer Upper, mom, and restaurant owner. This girl knows her food, and her mac & cheese is to die for.
Wanna know how to make it? Here’s how.
What you’ll need:
- 1 24 oz. package large elbow macaroni
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 cups milk
- 1 lb. process American cheese, unwrapped and torn
- 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese (8 oz.)
- 1 cup shredded Gruyere cheese (4 oz.)
- For seasonings, check out the video below
How to cook it:
Bring a pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Cook macaroni according to package directions; drain. Return macaroni to the warm pot.
Meanwhile, in a large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour and cook/stir for one minute, or until it starts to smell like cooked pie crust. Stir in seasonings.
Add milk, cook and stir until bubbly and slightly thickened. Add cheeses. Cook and stir until cheese melts. Stir into cooked pasta, then serve immediately. Serves 14. Or just you. I won’t judge.
I can’t get enough of this mac & cheese. It’s beyond delicious and I wish I could high-five Joanna for creating this awesome mac. Joanna, if you’re reading this, thank you!
Check out what Chip & Joanna are up to these days in the video below. They just had their 5th child and are moving away from their Fixer Upper days.
Give Joanna Gaines’ mac & cheese a try yourself. I promise you won’t regret it.
