There’s nothing I love more than a new quilting project: something that’s modern and something I’ve never done before. This race pattern is just that!

Laura from SewVeryEasy makes this using a white fabric, a black fabric, and a patterned fabric: neon green with black polka dots. The black and white come in a jelly roll with 20 strips each.

The green fabric, on the other hand is cut into 2.5″ strips in varying lengths. Just make sure these are no shorter than 4″. You’ll also need two scraps of a random fabric.

Sew the jelly roll strips together on the short sides. In between each piece, you’ll sew in one strip of your patterned fabric. You’ll end up with an insanely long strip, with the scrap pieces as leaders and enders.

When you follow Laura’s tips for sewing together these strips, then finally quilt it all together, it’s a gorgeous modern design that makes a unique addition to any quilter’s collection!

I used a gorgeous orange fabric on mine for fall, just so I can have this one on display during the season. This quilt is so simple to make, maybe I’ll do a blue one for winter!

How will you make this quilt pattern your own?
