I spend a lot of my time quilting. If I have a free moment, I’m usually at my sewing machine, working on my latest project.

That’s what I thought of as soon as I saw the title Jenny Doan of Missouri Star Quilt Company came up with for this quilt. It’s also a great play on words– the block looks like a ton of tiny hourglasses!

Making this block looks pretty complicated, but the large size and overall construction are simple.

Here’s what you’ll need to make the full quilt:

Jenny explains that making this quilt is beyond easy because it’s made out of half square triangles and a couple of squares… that’s it!

Take a background square and a print square and draw two diagonal lines from each corner. Sew them together across the diagonal lines from corner to corner on both sides of the line.

Cut across the lines and you’ll end up with 8 half square triangles. Press open, set your seam, and roll it back.

The rest of the process involves making different versions of half square triangles, and once you put them all together, you’re going to see how magical the blocks truly turn out.
