I love quilting all year round, but especially love quilting at Christmas time. Nothing makes the holiday season more bright and homey than DIY decorative accessories made from patchwork remnants fashioned into incredible holiday seasonal flair. I had some Christmas fabric I bought on sale at JoAnn’s Fabrics for next to nothing but didn’t quite know what I was going to do with them. I went searching on Youtube for a great Christmas quilting idea for my holiday table. I found this beautiful Christmas Ball Ornament Pillow and could not wait to try it! I started by Then I just followed the simple instructions and made my basic ball shape ornament out of a piece of adhesive fusible peel and stick Christmas fabric to go on the front of the pillow ten inches in diameter and I wanted my background fabric two inches bigger than that around the outside of it, so I made my background fabric 12 x 12 and peeled then Ironed on my ball onto my 12 x 12 background block.
The next step was super easy, you just make a patchwork strip two inches wide to go around the circumference of your quilt block ball, this step was perfect for me because I always save fabric scraps no matter how small, I actually used bits of an old jellyroll and it worked perfectly.
The beauty of this is that when I put the DIY Quilted Christmas Ball Ornament Pillow together was the lovely assortment of coordinating embellishments I used to decorate the ball ornament at the center of the pillow. I used a beautiful piece of vintage Christmas fabric for the back which came out of my Great Aunt’s Fabric Collection and some organic cotton pillow stuffing I got on sale at JoAnn’s Fabrics. My Jellyroll scrap pieces I used as a binding around the edge looked fabulous. The In-Laws had started arriving weeks ahead of time for the holidays and this festive DIY Quilted Christmas Ball Ornament Pillow really got everyone brimming with holiday cheer.
