With writing DIY articles being my job, it’s honestly rare for me to find a project that completely blows me away. Today, I found one of those rare projects.

Super builder and father I Like To Make Stuff on YouTube decided to give his children the ultimate form of entertainment: a rock climbing wall built into their room.

Unsurprisingly, building the wall took a ton of work, but surprisingly, it doesn’t look particularly difficult to do. As long as you have most of the tools, it’s possible for you to this make, too.

Wanna know how it’s done? I’ll walk you through some of the steps, and you can watch I Like To Build Stuff‘s video at the end of this post for more.

First thing’s first: you need to measure the exact dimensions of the area you plan to add a rock climbing wall too. You’ll be building this wall OVER your original wall, so this is the most important step.

Now, design your wall. Come up with the amount/size of the holds you’d like to use. If you want to create your own holds, check out another video by I Like To Make Stuff below.

Now that you’ve designed and created your wall along with the holds, it’s time to build your rock-climbing wall. This is the most time-consuming part.

I Like To Make Stuff does this by using his measurements to build a structure that covers the original wall. With some strong wood and some nails, it’s actually pretty easy.

Once that’s done, you’ll attach it to the wall and make adjustments like I Like To Make Stuff does. Then, you’ll add your hand holds. Test it out with a crash pad underneath, and it’s ready to use!

Make sure to use a crash pad with every use, and create your wall with the amount of risk you want to take in mind, and enjoy!
