I’m getting a new bed soon, and that means new bedding. I’ve had to replace my bedding a few times over the years, and eventually, it starts to pile up.
I figured I could always donate a lot of my old bedding to a thrift store, but I was curious to see if there were any sewing projects I could do with it. That’s when I found this!
You can make a dress out of an old pillowcase. The video tutorial by CraftyGeeky suggest donating them to an organization called Little Dresses For Africa, which provides clothes to impoverished areas of the continent.
I thought this project was more fun than simply giving my bedding to a thrift store, and it was super fun and easy to make!
First, fold the pillowcase in half lengthwise. Measure about 6 inches down and 3 inches in, then use your scissors to cut that chunk out of the pillow case.
Unfold the pillowcase and cut open the sewn end. Fold each end of the opening about an inch down, then insert an elastic band and sew it in place inside of the fold.
Gather the elastic band, tie them in place, and you’re done!

I can’t wait to make a ton of these and donate them. Not only do I get to do something awesome for the world, I get to sew while doing it. It’s a win win!
How many are you going to make?
