Half square triangles are some of the easiest blocks to do. Since they’re so simple to do, you’d think you wouldn’t be able to get an intricate, interesting, or unique quilt out of them.

Well, you’d be wrong.

Laura Coia from SewVeryEasy has created a stunning visual using only half square triangles.

The trick to this quilt is picking out a group of fabrics that look very muted and similar– Laura uses light peaches and pinks– and some fabrics that are bright and contrast greatly with the muted prints.

The more intense this contrast is, the better. If your bright fabrics have some creative patterns on it, even better.

For Laura’s variation of this quilt design, you’ll need 14 fabrics: 7 lights and 7 darks, making 7 sets of half square triangles in total. She uses fat quarters for this.

She uses 8″ squares for this, matches the fabrics how she wants them, and then creates half square triangles!

Once you have your sets, you’ll want to arrange them.

The arrangement for this quilt is stunning. It forms these eye-catching squares that you just can’t stop staring at.

Arranging it is pretty simple. I chose to work from the inside out, and separated it into sections like Laura does in her video.

Once you finish this quilt, you’ll want to show this off to everyone!
