Bye Bye Mosquitoes…
As excited as I’ve been for the warm weather to come back for spring and summer, I’ve also been trying to prevent one spring and summer nuisance from coming back: mosquitoes.
These pesky little dudes are flying all over the place during the hot months, and they tend to nibble on the skin of unsuspecting campers, hikers, and even people lounging in their yards.
If you’re one of those people who’s concerned about mosquitoes, there are a few things you can do to get rid of them.
The Solution
You could start by drowning yourself in bug repellent, but that stuff smells awful and could be made of pure poison– not something you always want to put on your skin.
You could also try classic citronella candles, but those often can be pretty pricey, and they don’t always smell the best. So what can you do? How do you keep those bugs away?
Easy! Make a non-toxic herbal water candle that will get rid of all of those critters without any of the negative effects. It smells delicious, it’s easy to make, and it’s cheap! What could be better than that?
Wanna make it yourself? Here’s what you’ll need to get started:
- mason jar
- water
- lemons
- limes
- essential oils of choice (cedar wood, lavender, lemon, and thieves are what is recommended)
- fresh rosemary
- floating tea lights

Begin by slicing up your lemons and limes. Fill your mason jar 3/4 of the way with water. Then, add 10 drops of your preferred essential oil(s). Add your rosemary, lemons, and limes.
Fill the rest of the jar with water from here until you reach the bottom of the rim, and add your tea light. Now it’s ready to light! G
