Free-motion quilting can come as a bit of a challenge to all experienced quilters, let alone beginners. No matter what your skill level is, finding a great design to quilt can be difficult.

That’s why geometric designs can be perfect. With a quilting ruler, your borders can look absolutely stunning with next to no effort!

If you do have some free motion skills, the ruler isn’t necessary, and the entire border is done in no time at all. You can get creative and add some interesting designs to the geometry to spice it up a bit.

Angela Walters is at it again with this easy-to-follow tutorial for geometric border quilting. She suggests using a walking foot for this if you can, but if not, any other foot of your choice should work.

This design consists of a ton of little triangles within other triangles, so all you need to do is sew two sides of a triangle facing the length of the border/quilt. Then, you’ll do more inside that one!

To watch a super in-depth tutorial on how to whip up a full border of this pattern, watch Angela’s video below. I think this pattern looks best with solid borders, but do whatever makes you happy!
