The Kentucky Derby Done Right
The Kentucky Derby is on its way very soon. Whether you’re actually going to the derby, watching from home, or just love the springtime races, we can all agree on one thing about the derby.
Perhaps even more iconic than the horse racing is what people wear to the derby: the eccentric hats! They’ve become a tradition since the derby’s inception in 1875, and there’s no sign of it stopping any time soon.
So, if you’d like to be part of the tradition, you’ve got to get your own hat. Instead of spending a ton on a derby hat, there’s a better, much cheaper solution: make your own.
Want to make your own fancy derby hat? Simple! Let’s grab those hats and get going on your own perfect design. You’re going to love making it!
Making The Hat
First thing’s first: you’ll need to get a sunhat. Courtney Litton uses a white hat covered in stunning rhinestones. If yours doesn’t have this, you can always use a hot glue gun to add some.
Now, you’re going to use some thick ribbon and hot glue like shown in the video below to create a gorgeous shape for your derby hat. Along with this, you’ll add fake flowers.
For your finishing touches, you’ll add some thick and netted tulle along with feathers. Once that dries, line the brim and ribbon with even more decorative touches, and your hat is ready to go!
Now that you know how to make derby hat, you can make one and use it for whatever you want. How will you decorate yours?
Have a blast making your hat, and if you have any plans for the derby, have fun and be safe!
