I love ruffles, I have them on my bed, on my pillows, and on my curtains, so why not have them around my tree this Christmas Season? I don’t usually think ruffles at Christmas but when I saw this simple No-Sew Burlap Tree Skirt on Youtube I knew it was going look fabulous with my femmy ruffle decor and still be very rustic and Christmasy. To get started I went to JoAnn’s Fabric Store and used my 40% off coupon for some red felt, and several kinds of burlap. The only other materials I needed were things I already had, like a hot glue gun a fabric marker, scissors, and some string.
This was the coolest trick I picked up from the video, you tie the string around a straight pin and tie the other end to your fabric marker then stick the pin into the felt and hold it while sweeping around the periphery with your pin. Then retie the marker to make a 6-inch circle in the middle for your tree opening. Then mark a line from the small circle to the big circle and cut everything out.
Next, I cut strips of burlap that are 8 inches wide, you then fold the strips in half and glue it down with your hot glue gun. To make the ruffles, you pinch and glue, continue this process all the way around.
Then you just keep going round and round adding additional layers until your gorgeous tree skirt is covered in ruffles. At the end, add your decorative bow.
What could be better for Christmas than ruffles and bows? I love this project, it’s easy and it turns out beautifully.
