If you have an old bike tire laying around, turn it into a money plant hanging planter. Green plants YouTube tutorial does a great job showing the steps on how easy it is to recreate this project. It is an interesting idea, but it does work. This DIY adds a nice crafty touch indoors or outdoors and I think it would impress many people. I have an old bike at home that is sitting in my garden with no use. It would be a great idea to try this project out because I would be throwing out the bike sometime later in the future anyway.

Supplies:

  • bike tire
  • drill
  • enamel paint black
  • gum tape
  • funnel
  • zip ties
  • nylon thread
  • nylon sponge
  • ceiling hook
  • coco peat
  • garden soil and compost
  • money plant or pothos

Directions:

First, lay your bike tire flat and use a drill to create drainage holes all around the tire. Brush off any excess from drilling the holes into the tires. Then, flip over the tire and create a bigger hole for a watering funnel.

Next, paint your tire with enamel black paint to create a nice sleek finish. Use gum tape to take over the watering funnel hole so the dirt doesn’t come out while filling up the tire. Use half coco peat and half garden soil and compost to plant the pothos into the tire. Also, put nylon sponge on top of the dirt and plant. This ensures everything stays in place.
