When Halloween is almost here, I get super excited to come up with a costume. It’s the best time of the year to get creative, so why not go all out and DIY one from scratch?
It sounds much harder than it is. You probably already have a lot of what you need already! These 4 ideas come from YouTuber Ella Elbells, and I love all of them. I’m sure you will too.
Let’s get started!
Domino
I love this costume because you can use the black dress after you’re done with the costume. Use some self adhesive felt to add the dot pattern of your choice, with a strip of tape in the middle.
Then that’s it! Remove the tape and felt and the dress is as good as new. If you want to add a little word play, a friend of yours can go as a slice of pizza… get it? Domino’s Pizza? No? Okay.
Ariana Grande’s ‘God Is A Woman’ Music Video
Who didn’t have this song stuck in their head this year? No one. The answer is no one. Basically, all you need for this outfit is a nude tube dress, some paint in baby blue, lavender, purple and white.
Paint all over the dress, using the music video for reference. Get face paint in the same colors, and paint your chest, arms, and face however you see fit.
Finish with a side braid and some lavender lipstick, and you’re done!
Marathon Runner
If Halloween costumes aren’t really your thing, this is perfect for you. Just put on a ton of athletic gear, some headphones and a fake metal, then add a marathon number.
That’s it, you’re done and you didn’t spend a dime!
Dead Battery
Take a black sweater and glue on some gray felt in the shape of a battery. Add a little red felt on the bottom of the battery, and that’s your outfit.
For a little extra something, add some “dead” makeup and some messy hair. Easy, cute, clever, and it’ll keep you warm!

Thanks for the costume ideas, Ella! I think I’m gonna go with the dead battery. My friends are gonna think it’s hilarious.
Which one is your favorite?
