Let’s be honest: buying and lugging around expensive, heavily scented, irritating, and chemical-laden laundry detergent is a pain in the behind.

Instead of going out and buying detergent that has God knows what in it, there’s an easier, cheaper, and better way to get your clothes clean. Make your own detergent!

How, you ask? With only 2 ingredients, you can have cheap and effective laundry detergent ready in just over an hour!

Here is what you’ll need to make it:

  • 1 bar Castile soap
  • 2 cups baking soda
  • essential oil(s) (optional)

First, we need to change the baking soda into washing soda. Do this by preheating your oven to 475 degrees F, or 240 degrees C. Spread out your baking soda on a baking sheet.

Place this in the oven for an hour so the baking soda becomes more alkaline, thus turning it into washing soda. You’ll notice it’s grayer and doesn’t clump as much.

In the meantime, grate up your Castile soap. Use whatever scent you’d like!

Now mix the two together, adding essential oils if you’d like, and it’s ready to use! Use 1 tbsp. or so per load of laundry, and save a ton of money in the process!

With no harsh chemicals, no crazy colorants, and a super easy-to-make formula, you really can’t go wrong with this stuff. Considering how cheap the ingredients are, it’s truly a steal!

Check out the video below for more on how this laundry soap is made. You’re gonna love making it, and you’ll love using it too!
