Dolly’s Dumplin

Dolly Parton: a country music icon, a style icon, and a movie icon. So much so, in fact, that a movie about her music and style just came out on Netflix!

It’s called Dumplin’, and it’s now one of my favorite movies.

In honor of Dumplin‘s release, Dolly decided to show off another skill of hers: cooking! Every recipe I’ve tried by Dolly in the past has been incredible, but this recipe really blows them all out of the water.

For the movie release, you can probably guess what recipe she decided to make for all of us: chicken and dumplins!

As her instagram above states, here’s what you’re gonna need:

  • 1 (3 lb.) stewing hen
  • 2 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 onion, peeled and left whole
  • 1/4 cups chopped celery leaves
  • 2 cups all purpose flour, plus extra for kneading
  • For the rest of the ingredients, check out Dolly’s Instagram post above!

Time To Cook

Combine chicken, 2 teaspoons of salt, and 2 quarts of water in a dutch oven. Cover and bring to a boil. Once boiling, reduce heat to medium, and add pepper, onion, and celery leaves.

Simmer until chicken falls away from the bone.

Remove the chicken and onion from the pot and strain. Discard onion and celery leaves. Set chicken aside to cool.

When cooled, remove chicken from bones and cut into 1-inch pieces. Set aside, and discard skin and bones. Raise heat to high and bring broth to a boil.

For the dumplins, check out Dolly’s Instagram post for further instructions. Enjoy!
